African Proverb: If the fight is tomorrow, why clench your fist today?

Meaning: You are not going to hold your fist clenched till tomorrow. Are you? Don't you have to use your hands for other things in the time being? There is a difference between acting in preparation and acting prematurely. The lesson here is simple. Don't get ahead of yourself. If anything, get ahead of your opponent. Experts say that the most important thing in a fist fight is not the blow itself but the stance. The way you position yourself will determine the impact of your blow. And believe it or not, the power in a good punch does not come from the arm but from the legs. If you position yourself well, your body weight and power will be channeled into the blow to deliver the results. With all these being said, remember the good old rule of fighting: "The epitome of martial excellence isn't winning every battle, but winning without fighting." (Sun Tsu) . Know when to fight and when not to fight. Be victorious!

African Proverb: the darker the night the brighter the stars

Meaning: Darkness in this context symbolizes a gloomy situation (or disappointment). While disappointment is not good in itself, it can help us learn something about ourselves. It is easy to deceive ourselves into believing that we have a lot of faith and hope when everything in our life is going well. But how much faith and hope we have is shown when things don't go the way we plan or expect. You see, there are two ways you can look at disappointment. You can either see it as an opportunity to stand out or you can see it as an occasion to give up. I think it was Winston Churchill who said, "the pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty". Darkness does not and cannot overshadow stars. Darkness only makes stars stand out. Thus, the problem is not that we have much darkness around us; our problem is the kind of light we have. Tough situations reveal the tough ones among us.
