African Proverb: A man who takes away another man's freedom is a prisoner of hatred

Meaning: It was Nelson Mandela, who once made the statement "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others". He said this not merely with his lips but with his life. As you may know, he survived 27 years in prison, forgave his enemies after release and lived an exemplary life of dignity and freedom from hatred in South Africa. He was not the real prisoner in his story. Those who imprisoned him unjustly were the prisoners, because they were motivated by hatred. Nothing enslaves like hatred! Even with this writing, I am almost certain that some people will try to use it to do the very thing that this writing is speaking against. But each of us must decide whether we want to be prisoners of hatred or promoters of freedom. Remember, the purpose of freedom is not to do what we want but to do what we ought. And as Abraham Lincoln once remarked, "Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves " . Be emancipated!

African Proverb: The slow movement of the tiger is not a mistake but a calculated move.

African Proverb: The slow movement of the tiger is not a mistake but a calculated move.

Meaning: The fact that some people are quiet doesn't mean they don't know what they are about. Don't be so naive as to take the silence of your enemies to mean they are stupid. That could well be a strategy to launch a surprise attack on you. Like the tiger, take calculated steps towards your target. Let your associates think you are behind. Let your competitors think you are slow. Let your haters underrate you. Let your detractors think you are a fool. Let your enemies underestimate you. And you surprise them with your success. Quite often our dreams get distracted because we invite too much attention to them. Too much attention can blind our vision. Be Undistracted.

Africa proverb: the same boiling water that softens the potatoe hardens the egg.

Africa proverb: the same boiling water that softens the potatoe hardens the egg.

The same sun that melts the wax hardens the clay. The same heat that melts butter hardens egg. Think about that. How is it that two people, who have equal opportunities, can go through the same trial or troubles and yet one of them ends up becoming bitter and the other ends up as a better person? The problem is not with the challenge they faced. The problem lies in their personalities. What kind of a person are you? Have you developed the tenacity or toughness to face your challenges without griping or giving up? Like Lou Holtz once said, often times "it's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it". That said, this proverb can also be interpreted to mean that while a certain thing you do can cause some people to love you , the same thing can cause others to hate. Or while something you say might cause some people to like you, the very same words might cause some people to dislike you. So what do you do? Well, you cannot please everybody. Just keep a clear conscience and develop a thick skin for people's unwarranted criticisms. Be tenacious.
